That's enough to make a decorated American war veteran(our protagonist) have to, at least, deal with his COMPLETE identification with all things "America"--per his proud "Native" Black American historic/well-educated, accomplished, solid, family.

A family with military service legacy in American wars from git.  They all subscribe to Family, Kin, Culture, double-digit generations "been-here" Ancestral History... HERE.  America. 

Spielberg could maybe produce it to balance up for some of the downtrodden misery, dysfunctional, helpless, pathetic, creative "explorations" him and a fair few of his Hollywood Black Image "choosers" have indulged in over the History of "Hollywood Cinema".

Thought Divergence:

Why?...with proven excellence in movie-movies like INDIANA JONES, JAWS, ET, JURASSIC PARK...and many other sci-fi/adventure/"heroic"  spectacles... did Spielberg choose COLOR PURPLE... incest, ugly, lowdown, sad--a portrayal of the worst...when he visited Native Black American "Family image"?

Probably for same reason seeming(in some way) "liberal" Spielberg hung the phone up on me when I refused to work with his chosen "replacement" director on a movie I'd written that Spielberg was going to direct, but had to step away from to do SCHLINDLER'S LIST...

Why did I say "no"?  Because  his boy used the word "Nigger" in an unnecessary casual reference in my first meeting him.  Boom. Classic Hollywood liberal bullshit.  And MANY Negroes know EXACTLY what I'm talkin' 'bout.

How do you know that?  Because of a TON of the stuff we've seen over the History of Hollywood.  Recently better?  Yes.  But...

And not for my one instance...but for all the instances I know of, been witness to, am aware of/been told of...and all the bullshit liberal posturing in between...(per example) dweebs comfortably whacking an ex-NFL player in the nuts at a Hollywood "liberal" get-together. 

"Liberties-taken"- shit happens in a BUNCH of ways.  I saw, was aware of, was told of TONS of socalled Hollywood liberals "arrogant" behaving  badly bullshit.

BUT more than anything...it's the public portrayals, slants...."using" to...;  Media in conjunction with...

It's complex, no question.  But the false fronts, manipulations, power-plays by hyena-scavengers in Gucci clothing...

At end, for me, personally.  It's about the young comin' along.  I've worked in juvenile correctional institutions, schools--community service organizations...and on and on...

The images, depictions, respect or lack of respect--and all the rest of it subtly or in your face portrayed--AFFECTS YOUNG SENSE OF SELF...no question.

Many are trying to make the World, this Existence..."STUFF" better.  God Bless 'em.
